My name is Brandy Scruggs. I am a local Columbus artist and the owner of BDS Photos. I work in many art media such as paint, paper, paper maché, decoupage, collage, and mosaic, but the main media that I focus on is photography and framing. Photography has been a passion of mine since I was very young. But it wasn’t until my 17th birthday that I got my first professional camera. From there on I always had it with me and snapped photos of everything. I really do enjoy photographing people and animals, but I have to say that my favorite subject matters are nature and architecture. I especially love flowers. I have always been inspired by the beauty and diversity of flowers. I love taking very close up photos of flowers, focusing on just one flower or even just part of one flower. The patterns and textures fascinate me. In fact, pattern and texture in general fascinate me. I also love the abstract. I love taking photos of a part of a common object so that you might not be able to tell what it is. For me, it gives my imagination room to make up my own story for that photo. And I hope that is what it does for others. I also frame my own art. I love picking out mats and frames that really compliment my work. It is such a feeling of accomplishment for me to pick out the perfect mat and frame that really make my work “pop.” I think by doing my own framing, I am able to really make my art look its best.
